The Bhutanese Community Association of Akron, Inc. recently put on a Bhutanese Cultural Program on the auspicious occasion of Tihar 10/30/11. The main objective of this program was to preserve and promote Bhutanese Culture and Tradition, and to bring together Bhutanese people for an evening of enjoyment and camaraderie. It also served to present the wider American community with a sampling of Bhutanese people's diverse artistic forms. The event proved to be a great success with small budget. Approximately, 500 BCAA member and 30 other guests attended the event which featured breakfast and lunch, an honors ceremony and entertainment provided by the youth.
The Bhutanese Community was happy to showcase its rich and varied culture for the amusement of all. The 50/50 raffle was also a success, raising $387.50 to fund the Bhutanese Community Gardening Program.
This event could not have come to fruition without the generous efforts of so many people. The BCAA board provided planning. Many ladies from the community devoted their day to feeding the groups. The youth in the community presented both traditional and modern dance and song numbers. Besides local talents, a group of guest artist joined us from Pittsburgh, PA and excited the audience with their performance. The community really came together to fund and plan this event. It was a great success and enjoyed by Bhutanese and Americans alike.
